NRA First Steps covers topics for people with little or no firearms experience.
Verbal Commands
In Threat Defense, you’ll learn clear, concise commands for diffusing tense situations. More importantly, we’ll explore how using verbal commands before resorting to force strengthens your legal standing.
De-Escalation Techniques
Threat Defense explores proven methods for interacting with emotional or erratic individuals, giving you the confidence to navigate potentially violent situations peacefully.
Team Communication
In Threat Defense, you’ll work in 2-person teams. You’ll practice communicating with your partner. This builds shared situational awareness and allows for quicker reactions and better decisions.
Stress Management
Threat Defense explores proven methods to manage stress in the face of a threat. These skills will give you the confidence and control you need to make sound decisions and act purposefully.
Requirements
To participate in this training, you must meet the following requirements:
Student Requirements
- Be 21+ years of age & a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be legally allowed to own a firearm in the state of Florida
- Be able to operate a firearm safely
- Complete a liability waiver before the start of the class
- A valid government-issued ID or driver’s license

Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Also, choose pants or shorts with belt loops. Avoid sandals or open-toed shoes.
Firearm & Gear Requirements
- None – All equipment will be provided to participants.
- This is NOT a Live-Fire class. Threat Defense is held at Decision Tactical’s training facility. It uses immersive scenarios to simulate real-life situations.
