Law Enforcement Firearms Qualification & Remedial Training in Florida

Passing a qualification is a requirement. Maintaining proficiency is a professional responsibility. Valortec provides agency-coordinated firearms qualification preparation, diagnostic marksmanship coaching, remedial instruction and continuing firearms proficiency training for sworn law enforcement officers in Central Florida.

Our instruction is built on the Science of Marksmanship: biomechanics, visual processing, neuromuscular coordination, trigger-control consistency, motor learning and measurable performance. We identify the cause of a performance problem rather than simply asking an officer to fire more rounds.

Annual Agency Qualifications and Florida CJSTC Requirements

Some departments require annual or more frequent firearms qualification. Florida’s statewide CJSTC law enforcement firearms qualification requirement is generally biennial, with qualification reported in even-numbered years. The applicable state qualification must be administered by a Commission-certified firearms instructor. Agency standards may be more demanding. See the FDLE mandatory retraining requirements and FDLE officer requirements FAQ for current guidance.

Compliance distinction: Valortec’s preparatory or remedial training is not automatically a state-recognized CJSTC qualification. Any official qualification, instructor authorization, record submission or credit must be confirmed with the employing agency and applicable CJSTC requirements before scheduling. We do not represent a session as state-certified unless the required authorization and documentation are established.

Law Enforcement Qualification Preparation and Remediation

Baseline Performance Assessment

We begin by reviewing the agency’s applicable course of fire, equipment requirements, performance expectations and the officer’s prior results where available. Instructors establish a documented baseline and identify recurring deficiencies.

Science-Driven Marksmanship Diagnostics

Instruction evaluates grip consistency, stance and balance, visual attention, sight management, trigger-control mechanics and recoil recovery. Coaching emphasizes repeatable performance and evidence-informed motor learning rather than unsupported shortcuts.

Individualized Remedial Training

Officers who struggle with qualification receive targeted instruction, structured practice, objective reassessment and feedback on retention. Passing an evaluation should demonstrate competency, not simply repeated exposure to the same test.

Agency-Specific Qualification Support

For departments, we can discuss preparation for duty-handgun qualification and additional firearm platforms where appropriately staffed, equipped and authorized. The agency determines its approved course, pass criteria, documentation and responsible certifying personnel.

Decision-Making and Continuing Proficiency

Where separately arranged, continuing training can address safe weapon handling, judgment, threat identification, de-escalation and use-of-force decision-making under agency policy. Scenario training is a distinct instructional component and is not a substitute for the required qualification.

Why Valortec? The Science of Marksmanship

Valortec’s training philosophy draws on the work of Herfel “Boots” Torres, author of The Science of Marksmanship, and an instructional team with experience in law enforcement, military service, national security and professional firearms education. Our approach combines individualized coaching with transparent performance standards and safety-first range management.

We do not confuse a completed course with demonstrated ability. Agencies need training that produces observable improvements, identifies unresolved deficiencies and protects the integrity of their standards. Read our perspective on law enforcement firearms qualification standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Florida require annual firearms qualification for law enforcement officers?

Florida FDLE describes the statewide CJSTC law enforcement firearms qualification as a biennial requirement. An employing agency may impose annual or more frequent requirements. Confirm your agency’s current policy and the applicable FDLE rules.

Can Valortec help an officer who failed qualification?

Yes. Subject to scheduling and instructor availability, we offer diagnostic coaching and individualized remedial training. Any subsequent official qualification must be conducted under the applicable agency and CJSTC requirements.

Is a Valortec training certificate the same as CJSTC qualification?

No. Attendance or completion of supplemental training alone does not establish official CJSTC qualification or mandatory-retraining credit.

Can departments schedule a private group?

Yes. Contact Valortec with the number of officers, desired dates, duty-firearm platform, agency requirements and training objectives so the scope can be reviewed.

Do officers need to bring duty equipment?

Equipment and ammunition requirements depend on the agreed session and agency policies. We provide a confirmed equipment list before training.
